Review of Hanna (2011) by Matt W — 29 May 2013
Another surprise. This week is just full of them...
I went in expecting a film like The American, where it would be a reasonably slow moving and bleak film- which to be honest I wasn't really looking forward to. But I was pleasantly surprised by this violent and zany film, it was very much in the style of a foreign film which I loved.
The performances are good, with a surprise appearance from Jason Flemying which was nice. But the main stand out here is Saoirse Ronan, Hanna herself, who brings life to the character, and also I liked Cate Blanchett as the villain.
Some have complained that they didn't like the direction and cinematography, but I ate it up and thought it added to the lunacy of what was happening, as the camera turns and swoops quickly from a Ferris Wheel to a forest- it's pretty crazy, and I really enjoyed it.
