Review of Hanna (2011) by Matthew G — 08 May 2012
Hanna was a weird movie. It's a fascinating take on the revenge thriller, but as a whole it was weird. Saoirse Ronan does a good job at portraying Hanna, who's been trained by her "father" Erik (Eric Bana) pretty much her whole life to become a heavily trained assassin and avenge the death of her "mother" by killing Marissa (Cate Blanchett), who murdered her all those years ago.
This has got to be perhaps the scariest Cate Blanchett performance I've ever seen; she is just creepy, scary, and sometimes frightening. The plot and characters are good, and the cinematography is rather neat, but it all ends on such a heavily open note.
That's it? What happens next?! Overall it was a fun movie to watch, but wow was it weird.
