Review of Hanging Up (2000) by Intuciic . — 19 Mar 2013
I randomly discovered this film when it came up as a recommendation on a webpage for a film I hated. I have no idea why, but I was drawn to it even though I watched no trailers and I was fully aware that the reviews from both critics and moviegoers were awful.
Perhaps, being in my nature to seek terrible films, thought that this was going to satisfy my craving for a shitty film and go down as yet another chick flick I've given a poor rating to. Much to my utter astonishment, I actually really enjoyed Hanging Up, which really caught me off guard.
This film seems to have been incorrectly marketed as some sort of comedy, as the poster would suggest, when in reality it is more of a drama than a comedy. I felt this film was a very effective and at times touching dramedy, thanks to the script and great acting from the cast members.
While the film isn't a masterpiece, I cannot deny that I really enjoyed it and I think it is a misunderstood film that deserves another look. I love it and I will probably watch it many times in the future.
