Review of Hang 'em High (1968) by Daniel W — 05 Mar 2010
Ex-lawman Clint Eastwood is minding his own business when he's set upon by a posse who's looking for a murderer to string up. Whether it's an actual murderer, seems to be of little concern. Clint's feet swing. Saved from death by a bypassing Ben Johnson, he gains a badge and vows revenge on the men in the posse.
"Hang 'em High" is a pretty standard late-'60's western, but I found it most interesting as one of the best "Hey, I know that guy" movies. In addition to legendary character actors Johnson, Ed Begley Sr., Bruce Dern and Dennis Hopper, it also co-stars; Commissioner Gordon, The Skipper, Canino from "The Big Sleep", the gladiator trainer from "Spartacus", Millie from Mayberry R.F.D., and...Spock's dad!
