Review of Hang 'em High (1968) by Senor C — 14 Jan 2010
This western has some great acting and quite a good storyline concerning the hypocrisy of authority that bubbles under the main premise of a man out for revenge after a wrongful attempted hanging.
However, the film is badly let down by the pedestrian, by the numbers, TV style direction of Ted Post. It compares rather badly to the freewheeling, fluid direction of Sergio Leone's "Dollars films made a couple of years previously. I believe Ted Post is the same man who directed "Magnum Force", the sequel to Dirty Harry? Hard to believe they're both made by the same man.
Incidentally, can someone please explain the inexplicable 18 certificate this film has? Most of the violence is so soft, it would barely rate a 12!
