Review of Hammett (1982) by Stephen J — 08 Dec 2010
Falls way short of the mark on the neo-noir scale. Makes for a fine time-waster for a rainy Sunday afternoon, but otherwise not worth any great effort to see it. See it for the stunning sets, not the shallow plot.
It is fun to see Elisha Cook, Jr doing himself again, but if you really want Hammett on film, dust off your copy of 1941's "Maltese Falcon.".
