The poster is cool!
It sounds cool!
It's Vikings! It's got to be cool!
But... it was meh.
When it starts you think it might be a little silly (the character's names flash on the screen), but the tone changes drastically by the end.
It reminded me of Apocalypse Now.
Let me 'splain...
(***SPOLER ALERT***).
In AN, Capt. Willard is sent to find Col. Kurtz who is AWOL.
In Hammer, Steiner (the Viking) is sent to find his AWOL brother, the future king.
The middle parts of the movie where Capt. Willard goes through his little adventures is interesting. (surfing soldiers/napalm in the morning, etc.).
The middle parts of the movie where Steiner goes through his little adventures is dull. (fighting, walking, fighting, walking).
In the end of AN, Kurtz is found in the middle-of-nowhere jungle, believes himself a god, and has a group of followers who are savages.
In the end of Hammer, the Viking brother is in the middle-of-nowhere forest, believes himself a god, and has a group of followers who are savages.
When they both reach their goal, they realize the person they're searching for is insane and must kill them.
So, basically, the dude that wrote Hammer of the Gods copied Apocalypse Now with lesser results.
