Review of Hamlet 2 (2008) by Anne F — 16 Oct 2009
A very ridiculous comedy about a failed actor named dana marschz (steve coogan) who is having an absolutely terrible life. his job involves teaching uninspired drama students how to get excited about film and theater, which only two students really listen at first.
after a series of terrible events happen to him, such as the school firing and banning him from the school for a play he proposed to direct, his wife leaving him and getting pregnant with another man, and himself getting hooked back on alcohol after seven years, he decides that he wants to put on his play still since it has helped bring his drama students together while still dividing the community.
the play itself is ridiculous and controversial, but made safe by an ACLU activist, played by amy poehler, who justifies all the actions in it by saying its a right to free speech. the movie is hilarious and crazy throughout, with standout performances by steve coogan, joseph julian soria, elisabeth shue, and even catherine keener's drunken scenes were quite touching.
its a fun comedy and definitely worth seeing.
