Review of Hamlet (1996) by Adam S — 08 Feb 2010
Hamlet is one of Kenneth Branagh's multiple Shakespeare film adaptions for which he is well known, and may be the best of the lot. Set in Denmark Hamlet is the story of a Prince embarking on a quest of revenge against his own Uncle, and all the tragedy and drama that ensues.
The film is very well done and the acting is spot on, especially in the case of Branagh as the title character. The sets and filming techniques are handled very nicely, and there aren't many flaws to speak of.
Needless to say, only approach this one if your a Shakespeare fan. The film leaves out literally nothing from the play, making it a very long adaption, so your only going to want to sit down and watch if you have plenty of time and again, are a fan of the play.
If you meet both those prerequisites, this film is for you. If your intersting in getting in to Shakespeare but don't want to sit down and read it, this film also may be for you (beware, the lines of the movie are the lines from the book, so don't think your getting out of the Shakespearian language).
If your none of the above, stay far, far away from this one.
