Review of Hamlet (1996) by Olivia C — 23 Jun 2008
About as perfect as a Shakespeare adaptation can be.
Every actor is brilliant, they make the dialog easily understandable and add flair to each soliloquy through the use of their bodies and their surroundings.
The film is visually stunning. The sets are breathtaking and the use of 70mm film means every detail can be seen.
Many shots go on for minutes at a time as the camera circles the actors. This makes the dialog all the more dramatically forceful.
Kenneth Branagh is brilliant, this should have been nominated for many Oscars in 1997. It's certainly better than "The English Patient.".
