Review of Hamlet (1996) by Shelby L — 06 Nov 2009
While I can understand Kenneth Branagh's desire to conserve the full text of Shakespeare's work, four hours would be extraordinarily long for a staged production, let alone a film.
Few modern audiences will find this the least bit accessible. Only those willing to set aside an entire afternoon to watch Branagh consistently and severely overact the title role will be able to appreciate his loyalty to the source material.
