Review of Hamlet (1996) by Daniel M — 14 Dec 2009
Though I think four hours is a terribly long time to sit in one place, Hamlet feels like it lasts only two: it is so intence, capturing, full of emotion, it is something huge. Kenneth Branagh makes a wonderful job both as the director and as Hamlet.
He knows that if you film the whole play with it's original lines, you have to have a frame mighty enough to carry the heavy script, and this version certainly does both look and sound wonderful. I don't know about those people, who don't like Shakespeare, but to me Kenneth Branaghs Hamlet is pretty much perfect.
Only the old language of the finnish subtitles bothers me.
