Review of Hamlet (1990) by Doug B — 18 Jan 2008
A cold, emotionless and clearly inferior production of Hamlet in comparison to Olivier's and Branagh's. Too much of the text is cut out and the scenes lack any passion or fury from the actors, there are brief moments of positivity with Ian Holm and Helena Bonham Carter but Gibson is hopeless, the direction is very muddled and everything seems in the wrong place.
The Fencing match especially is a let down.
