Review of Hamburger Hill (1987) by Harry G — 02 Apr 2014
It may have some of the 'Vietnam movie' stereotypes that make a modern audience cringe, but it's a well shot and uncompromising view of the war nonetheless. What makes it amongst the best of the 1980s Vietnam films is that it manages to be both against the war and fully on the side of the soldiers fighting it.
You see the mud (often overlooked in Vietnam films) and the brutality, but you also hear the personal distaste carried in even the most soldierly of soldiers.
