Review of Halloween: Resurrection (2002) by Jason D — 30 Aug 2009
It's always hard for me to really trash a movie or say bad things about it, especially when so many people put a lot of hard work and thought into a film, but Halloween: Resurrection stands as one of the worst films I have ever seen and a complete slap in the face to the franchise.
Seriously, all of these morons that are hating on the remake and its sequel have CLEARLY forgotten about this film. Halloween: Resurrection starts off so promising as Laurie Strode is put back into the picture, regardless of how poorly handled her character is, who is now a mental patient in a hospital, after the result of H20, which turns out it was an innocent person she killed and not Myers.
It's not long before Myers is after her and succeeds in taking her out finally, resulting in him going back to his old home in Haddonfield where an internet game show is about to begin where contestants spend the night in the Myers home for prizes.
The contest is lead by Tyra Banks (whose wasted in this film) and Busta Rhymes, whose prepped to be the hero in this film but only serves as horribly comic fodder, bad acting, and who ensues a climactic karate match against Myers that had me in tears (first with laughter, then sheer disbelief, and finally depression).
To think I was excited about this film at one point. Maybe because of returning director Rick Rosenthal (he did part 2), but I don't know how he let himself churn out such a despicable sequel. The film tries to infuse all of the current trends at the time, which unfortunately involved a lot of unnecessary urbanization and Blair Witch style filmmaking.
The end result is a total mess and this film serves to be more of a comedy than an actual horror film. Very disappointing.
