Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Daniel P — 15 May 2010
Intended to reboot the Halloween franchise as a series of one-off films that just happen to be set during the Halloween period, Season of the Witch was not a film that Joe Public embraced. The audience demanded more Michael Myers, which is what they got with the next film.
It's a pity, as though this standalone film is not hugely successful (it now seems to be garnering a bigish following) it is decent enough. The cinematography is particularly impressive, the new music from John Carpenter may not have the same impact as the original theme but is still excellent, and the performances are more than serviceable.
The script, which went through numerous rewrites, is not wholly original but is a damn sight better than the dreck some of the Michael Myers films throw up. The masks are also downright creepy.
