Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Tim W — 24 Apr 2014
"THERE IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE HALLOWEEN MASKS".
- 'Halloween 3: Season of the Witch' is a 1982 horror film and a bit of the oddball in the whole Halloween-franchise, as it's the only one that doesn't deal with serial killer Michael Myers. It's no slasher film, but a dark sci-fi story using supernatural elements, which was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace (IT) and produced by John Carpenter. I must say I didn't like the whole thing and feel disappointed that it was named 'Halloween 3'. The slight references to the previous movies were the two TV-shots that were shown where we could see Laurie Strode and of course the same frightening music that was used. Now let's forget about this misfit...
A man was attacked by a mysterious figure and brought to the hospital. In his hand he clutches a Jack-o-Lantern Mask, made by Silver Shamrock, a very popular manufacturer of Halloween masks. The confused guy is placed in the care of doctor Challis. That same night a suited man enters the hospital room of the man and pokes out his eyes. Caught red-handed by the head nurse, the killer makes his way outside, steps in his car and torches himself.
Doctor Challis can't let go of the incident and decides after meeting the murdered man's daughter Ellie, to investigate the whole matter. Together they go to the small town of Santa Mira, where the Silver Shamrock factory is situated. It doesn't take them long to notice that people in the town are behaving very awkward...
