Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Steven L — 25 Aug 2009

The filmmakers didn't want another "Michael Myers" sequel and opted to make the series like that of "The Twilight Zone." That would've been fine and dandy by me except the movie is badly written and extremely boring.

I will give the movie this: the set up is suspenseful. I was really intrigued by the opening chase scene and actually dwelled into it. As the movie (very slowly) progressed, I cared less and less to the point of wanting to shut it off.

A lot of "investigation" scenes that go absolutely nowhere. This goes on for another hour and ten minutes up until the revelation at the end that makes the time that came before it seem almost interesting.

The characters are boring and the actors that portray them don't help at all. Tom Atkins seems like he's bored throughout the whole thing, even when he starts yelling at the screen (a funny moment).

Stacy Nelkin seems like an idiot. Her character basically asks her to look scared and she can't even do that well. Dan O'Herilhy is alright in this. He seems like he's milking the role because he has the chance too.

Tommy Lee Wallace should have said yes to Part 2 instead of this one. He's a good director and deserves way better than this script. There's a couple of cool angles, the first chase scene is really suspenseful and there's one cool scene where he ties in the music of the original Halloween.

Carpenter does the score for this again and it's probably my favorite aspect of the movie. The masks and effects are also pretty cool, but there aren't enough to keep you amused. Add to this putrid lines, a lagging pace and the most annoying commcerial tune ever (I swear it plays OVER AND OVER).

This is a bad movie. Michael Myers fan or not, there's no point to this entry. Skip it.
