Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by Lycao19 — 18 Aug 2008
First of all, this movie is surprisingly not about Michael Myers, and it is not connected to Halloween 1 and Halloween 2. This said, the movie is a standalone and must be understood as such. Second, while it was directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, it has some features found in John Carpenter movies (actually, John Carpenter was one of the producers of Halloween 3).
For instance, this movie has little gore and sex (like Halloween 1 : Carpenter 1978). Other features depart from Halloween 1, and seem more closely related to later movies such as Prince of darkness (Carpenter 1987) : repetition, loops, pseudo-human creatures, indirect involvement of snakes, useless secondary characters with erratic behavior that make the lead characters look alone, some kind of overpowering force, and, of course, a weird ending inspirating despair.
Some things in this movie lack consistency and do not seem too logical but, overall, it's really tense and scary.
