Review of Halloween II (1981) by Daniel P — 10 May 2010
An acceptable sequel which continues directly after the end of the first film (Jamie Lee Curtis, who had aged between the two films, had to wear a wig so that the continuity would match up). Director Rick Rosenthal does a fair John Carpenter imitation, with a nice scene where Michael Myers' face floats into the dark.
I found the first hour fairly tedious to be honest, and I'm sure it's no coincidence that the film comes to life once Jamie Lee Curtis comes out of her drug-induced stupor. The film is bloodier but less suspenseful than the original (and John Carpenter himself is responsible for many of the gory close-ups - scenes edited into the film after the studio executives found it too 'dull').
Serviceable but nowhere near as memorable as the first.
