Review of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) by Camille L — 04 Jan 2010

Well I guess if your going to do ANOTHER sequel in the Halloween franchise, than this is how you can do it. It was a huge sigh of relief to know that the production team completely dropped the idea that they had for 4,5, and 6. This film kind of goes back to the roots of the two original films, bringing back Curtis, and making up some reason why she wasn't actually dead to avoid all of the confusion. Overall, it's not a very good movie, but "Halloween H20" certainly is watchable.

Well a change of scenery is always nice, and in H20 we go all the way to California for the mayhem. Though this really isn't expected, I don't have a problem with it. It's just the same killing.

I mean it was kind of a good thing that they went back to their roots, but It really makes me upset that they COMPLETELY forgot about the previous three movies. I mean....you can have the old style back, but why would you delete all the characters? Jamie Lloyd does not exist in this film,which is completely annoying because it confuses a lot of people. If she could be incorporated I wouldn't have a problem with it. Maybe Curtis could have mentioned that she put up a kid for adoption a long time ago, and THEN she faked her death. They really could have worked around it, but instead they completely disregarded it. That's really frustrating.

The acting is much more impressive then any other Halloween sequel. We have Curtis who is in her prime in this film, so she did a good job. Josh Hartnett was pretty good as well, and I guess LL cool J was okay. All I'm saying is their wasn't horrible acting in this movie, something that we see A LOT in Halloween films, so this was a breath of fresh air.

This movie also goes back to the original, in which their aren't A LOT of deaths. As compared to the previous three movies, this movie doesn't have a lot of killing, and that's okay, because we don't need to see a body count.

The music is also a lot better this time around, and it seems like it was handled with a lot of great care, so this was good.

(The "Psycho" cameo gave me a good chuckle).

"Halloween H20" is a bit of a face lift from the previous three, but it was still kind of ridiculous....cheesy....repetitive, and has all the lines that you would expect. Ehh.......
