Review of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) by Kyle L — 08 Dec 2012
Halloween H20 is the best among all of the Halloween sequels since Halloween II. When I watched this film I was so surprised with the entire film and everything was just great with Halloween H20 and I was like wow! Big surprise to the Halloween franchise.
Because this movie is not only an impressive revived sequel but the movie is more of a closer recreation of John Carpenter's 1978 classic and it is one of the best ideas I've ever seen in a movie and this revived sequel has the best ideas and it manages to surpass all of the mistakes of Halloween 4-6.
The plot of this film is simple the movie takes place 20 years after the events of the first two Halloween films where Laurie Strode who now has a son name John and is now a dean of a Northern California private school under the pen name Keri Tate.
But soon Laurie discovers that her brother Michael is coming back to terrorize her again and Laurie must kill Michael to end his killing spree once and for all. I had a fun time watching this movie and I enjoyed watching this Halloween film as much as I enjoyed watching the first three Halloween films.
I normally like this sequel and I like the idea that this film ignores also the events of Halloween 4-6 and follows more on the original Halloween films and the plot is so well build and this movie has some of the most wonderful moments that I've seen in a Horror movie for a long long time.
What I like about Halloween H20 is that this film not only has a wonderful plot but the movie also has several elements borrowed from the original John Carpenter classic from the atmosphere to it's revived plot and kills as well.
The whole movie not only feels like a revived sequel but more of a closer recreation of the original John Carpenter classic and the execution of Halloween H20 just blew me away and I was so amazed with how the movie worked hard to be a revived sequel and as a closer recreation of the original John Carpenter classic.
What's great about Halloween H20 is that the entire film is full of atmosphere and the atmosphere in this film is just like in the original John Carpenter classic and to be honest the cinematography is just like in the original film and everything about it is just great for the movie.
What I also like about Halloween H20 is of course Michael Myers and he's just as scary as in the first two Halloween films and Michael's mask is much more closer to the original film because he looks like a boogeyman in this movie just like in the original John Carpenter classic and I like the idea so far.
What I also like about this film is that the movie has the same suspense as the original film and there are lots of suspenceful scenes in this film like the chase of Michael on Laurie's son is one of the most suspenceful parts of the film along with the opening scene and I did like the idea of this film so far.
What I was also fund of this film is the kills in the movie and I like the idea of the kills in this film and all of the kills in this film are much more closer to the first Halloween and all of the kills are not gory or brutal and like the original film where the kills are shown but there's no blood on the kills and the kills in the original are more atmospheric.
Halloween H20's kills are just like in the original film and there's some blood but they don't squirt on the screen or anything else they're just placed on the faces of some of the dead victims and most of the kills are off screen which wasn't done in the original film and this movie lessens the brutality because the kills in here are just plain and simple and they're not that brutal like in Halloween II because Halloween II has the extra brutality along with the later on sequels.
And I know that the extra brutality in Halloween II is not necessary when comparing to the original film but at least Halloween II had the same suspense, tension and atmosphere as the original Halloween and at least Halloween H20 follows the kills of the original Halloween more so far and it is just plain great.
Now the acting in this movie is impressive the magnificent Jamie Lee Curtis did a good job once again with her role as Laurie Strode in Halloween H20 after several years of absence on the other Halloween films and Josh Hartnett along with the new casts did a wonderful job with they're roles in the film so far.
Director Steve Miner and writer Robert Zappia did a good job with reviving the Halloween films with this new and fresh revived sequel that is more of a closer recreation of the original John Carpenter classic other than a revived sequel and this is Steve Miner's best work since Friday The 13th Parts 2 and 3.
I only wish that John Carpenter(Director of the original Halloween)directed this movie and I heard that he was supposed to direct this film but he walked away from the project due to his budget fee on this movie and if John Carpenter did direct this film with the help of Steve Miner this movie would look even better I could possibly imagine John Carpenter and Steve Miner working on this movie and it will be a good Halloween movie it's too bad Carpenter didn't direct this film and at least Steve Miner did a good job with his work so far.
Overall Halloween H20 gets a 10/10 and this is the best among all the Halloween sequels and this movie is a closer recreation of the original Halloween other than a revived sequel.
