Mirroring the relationship between 1978's "Halloween"and 1981's direct sequel "Halloween II", the enjoyable cheesefest "Halloween 4" is followed by this tepid follow-up, the insufferable "Halloween 5".

The gleefully sick sense of humor and terror found in H4 is gone, replaced with a need to display as much violence, gore and sex as possible. The more-ridiculous-than-usual storyline does nothing to help the film, and even though are a few moments of true shock, there is no real terror to be found in this fifth installment - just an ending that promises another sequel, leaving more questions unanswered and several story lines left unfinished.

Compared to essentially any of the other sequels in the series, "Halloween 5" is an embarrassing footnote to a franchise that hit rock bottom with this one.
