Review of Halloween (2018) by Adriane B — 20 Oct 2018
Incredible film. We just saw Halloween and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. A fantastic production made for Halloween fans by Halloween fans so-to-speak. The attention to detail, the homages paid to the past with spoken: "that's the idea", and seen: a familiar sun hat on Laurie's wall.
A brilliant mask, and Jamie Lee Curtis' performance all make this instant Classic a must see. In this Halloween some 40 years later, we find Michael Myers more vicious and extremely brutal in his killing methods.
Also the depth of Curtis' character Laurie Strode can't be overstated. The PTSD that she's endured since 1978, how the experience has taken hold of her life, the failed marriage's and estrangement from her daughter, have all added new dimensions to this now mentally toughened character.
If I had to sum this movie up in one word, it would be "spooky". To briefly name a few scenes which I found exceptionally chilling, they would be the scene at Smith's Grove, a handful of teeth in a gas station restroom, the reflection in the window, a teenager and some motion lights, Dr.
Sartain's complete 180, and Michael's special jack-o'-lantern. The film had some comedic elements as well, particularly Jibrail Nantambu who played Julian. If there was ever a scene stealer in a Slasher film, he was it.
His appearance was only brief, however very memorable with his one-liners and overall humor. With this being said, Halloween is a solid movie from beginning to end, and be sure to stay for the end credits to hear one of Laurie's favorite tunes from years past by.
