I went to this movie with high expectations, as I love the Halloween movie series (and Jamie Lee) and the concept of her taking a more proactive approach for the inevitable return of Michael was intriguing, although heavily influenced by Terminator 2, including a contrived rift with her daughter (played by Judy Greer) for the way in which she was raised in a paranoid and militant environment.

While the concept is good, the execution, beginning with the cliche-laden script, is poor as the director abandons any attempt at suspense in favor of "jump scares" which are so predictable as to be ineffective in the emotion they are meant to be evoking. I was also disappointed that there was no meaningful exploration into Michael's resiliency.

Overall, this film was disappointing, as I expected a more evolved film than the original that spawned the entire series, but when it was over, I actually wished I had stayed home and watched the original, which was 10 times better, accounting for aging.
