Review of Halloween (2018) by Virginia M — 20 Oct 2018
I'm glad I wrote this review after the initial high went down for me. I was exceptionally excited after first seeing it, the beginning credits brought a lot of nostalgia. The soundtrack was definitely a John Carpenter soundtrack.
There were so many parallel scenes to the original movie. It really did the original justice. The acting was great by the main three girls as well. However, the comedy in this was terrible and useless.
The original had such an eerie vibe, even in the down scenes of the original there was always some creepy background music playing and it really paced itself and made the whole experience more scary and have the fear stick longer.
This one, whenever there wasn't a scary scene (and even during some scary scenes) that had to add these useless one liners. It was ridiculous and not everyone likes the toxic comedy genre to take over their genre.
Stupid one liners have ruined so many modern movies for me, and this one isn't an exception. It appeals to the lowest common denominator of people, but I guess those are the ones giving movies the most money.
While Jamie Lee Curtis killed her role, it was pointless to have her so obsessed with Michael after one night, 40 years ago. At least when he was her brother it made sense that she always felt the connection to him in H20.
And even in H20 she wasn't as obsessed. It really didn't make sense. There were also a lot of cliche's in this movie. The pace was also just too fast. The original Halloween offered a stalking pace, Michael really followed and scared his prey.
Here, he just killed whoever was around. I really wanted to love this movie, I was so excited. I still think it was good, but it was mainly the pointless comedy that ruined it for me. I hope the one liner fad starts to die off, but as long as people continue to stupidly fall for it, it'll be here for awhile.
