A return to form for this franchise. A direct sequel to Halloween (1978) this film retcons all of the sequels (even kinda making fun of the absurdity of them during the film). The film takes place 40 years after the events of the first film.

Michael Myers (Nick Castle) is being transferred from the mental institute he's been at for the last 40 years. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is still around the town of Haddonfield, but has become a bit of a recluse and paranoid.

Laurie isn't quite the "scream queen" she was back in 1978. She's been prepping herself for the return of Michael and learning everything she needs to know, so that she's basically never in a vulnerable position again.

Because of all this she's become estranged from her daughter Karen (Judy Greer). Her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) stays in contact with her and is always trying to include her in their life still regardless of her moms wishes.

Well if you've seen any horror film obviously something goes down and Michael is back on Halloween night seeking not just Laurie, but killing endlessly. The plot is pretty simple here and well it doesn't actually need to be complex for it to work.

Michael is as creepy as ever. Not speaking a word with just his heavy breathing feeling in some scenes. The gore and kills are intense in this one. There's some extremely brutal and gory scenes in this one.

It works well. I can't say much more. The characters work well here and if I had to gripe I would have liked to get a bit more of the back story between Laurie and Karen. We kind of just jump into what's going on, but it reveals itself nicely.

I really enjoyed Will Patton as Officer Hawkins. I actually found him to be one of my more favorite characters since he always has a great on screen presence. Overall, a great horror film that continues the tradition of the first film.

It has the perfect blend of horror, gore and story. I definitely recommend checking this one out!
