Review of Halloween (2018)

By Joseph Falcone (12) for We Got This Covered (2,391) on 10 Sep 2018

While it doesn’t do much to elevate the genre, Halloween does tick each and every box, which should be more than enough to appease your run…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Elena Lazic (92) for SciFiNow (378) on 09 Sep 2018

Green's Halloween isn't a derivative sequel. The new film also brilliantly and earnestly adopts the visual language of Carpenter's creation…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Brian Tallerico (1,600) for RogerEbert.com (5,563) on 09 Sep 2018

Green and McBride are playing with some interesting themes and there’s a female empowerment story of trauma here that’s interesting (but…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Bryan Bishop (118) for The Verge (432) on 09 Sep 2018

The 2018 Halloween isn’t an entirely successful film, and it won’t provide an easy template for a new generation of revitalized slasher…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Angie Han (120) for Mashable (91) on 09 Sep 2018

Like most long-running horror franchises, the Halloween series has seen its share of ups and downs over the decades…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Joshua Rothkopf (1,058) for Time Out (7,510) on 09 Sep 2018

What elevates Halloween beyond mere fan service is the presence of Jamie Lee Curtis, whose willowy Laurie Strode has been converted, Sarah…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Nicholas Bell (55) for IONCINEMA.com (55) on 09 Sep 2018

Wisely abstaining from answering any questions about the mythos of Michael Myers, Green's Halloween is the best iteration of the franchise…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Sarah Kurchak (64) for Consequence of Sound (1,431) on 09 Sep 2018

Halloween deserves credit for its efforts to balance old and new, for taking us back to Haddonfield in a way that isn’t purely for cheap…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Matt Maytum (105) for Total Film (3,532) on 09 Sep 2018

The latest Halloween installment is fun while it lasts, but unlike its predecessor, it’s not a classic for the ages…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Benjamin Lee (469) for Guardian (4,584) on 09 Sep 2018

There are some effectively nasty kills (this is no PG-13 reboot) and Green’s visual eye often results in some impressive imagery but both…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By A.a. Dowd (854) for AV Club (2,778) on 09 Sep 2018

Halloween isn’t explicitly a horror-comedy, but it does have the destructive habit of undercutting its scares with broad laughs, Green and…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Josh Lewis (11) for The Film Stage (3,162) on 09 Sep 2018

The kills are plentiful and the splatter sticky, meanwhile Green and cinematographer Michael Simmonds do excellent work with the widescreen…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Andrew Todd (31) for Polygon (677) on 09 Sep 2018

Curtis' 40-years-on return to the role is no cash-in; she gives an emotionally raw performance that makes Laurie the heart of the film…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Katie Walsh (1,279) for Nerdist (550) on 08 Sep 2018

For all of the deep and fascinating semiotic analysis of this film, it's also just a great Halloween movie…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Oliver Whitney (71) for ScreenCrush (954) on 08 Sep 2018

It may not be as scary, as expertly crafted, or as inspired as the 1978 original, but it's a total blast that hits the spot…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By J. Olson (540) for Cinemixtape (540) on 08 Sep 2018

David Gordon Green's Halloween may not be perfect, but it's exactly the rough-and-tumble twenty-first century sequel that Carpenter's film deserves…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By E. Oliver Whitney (111) for ScreenCrush (954) on 08 Sep 2018

Green serves up everything we love about the first Halloween, completely playing off our nostalgia for the slasher classic, and to me, that’s…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Jim Vejvoda (203) for IGN (1,013) on 08 Sep 2018

While no entry in the franchise has surpassed the original film, this Halloween sequel is truly a cut above the rest and a great piece of horror…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By Keith Uhlich (870) for Slant Magazine (8,298) on 08 Sep 2018

For all of the film’s attempts to get back to the sinisterly sidling Michael of the first Halloween, his stealth movements no longer terrify…

Review of Halloween (2018)

By David Crow (142) for Den of Geek (424) on 08 Sep 2018

By paying fealty to that initial terror, 2018's Halloween is the best take on what a Halloween II should be…
