Review of Halloween (2007) by Josh K — 23 May 2013
Rob Zombie's reboot of John Carpenter's horror classic isn't great, but it is still interesting to watch. While appearing as a reboot, the film is also a prequel, focusing on Michael Myers's time at Smith's Grove.
In a way the film primarily focuses on Michael, with all the other characters being thrown aside. The film's choice of music is perfect, particularly Mr. Sandman, while the cinematography is very amazing, the only problem is the film doesn't have the same feel as the original.
Tyler Mane is perfect as Michael Myers, bringing a much more aggressive approach to the character, while Malcolm McDowell is also a good choice for Dr. Sam Loomis. The main problem is that Laurie Strode, who is a major character in the original, doesn't have the same amount of screen presence.
In the end, this film is just a good film, but not as great as the original.
