Review of Halloween (2007) by Eoghan C — 10 Dec 2012
A terrible remake of a horror classic. It doesn't offer anything new, not terrifying, making it feel like an exploitation rather than a slasher.
It takes 40 minutes for Michael to start killing his older sister, father and one of the bullies (played by Daryl "Generator Rex" Sabara). It gives too much backstory which makes it redundant. It uses cliched explanations on what made him become the unstoppable killer and it doesn't even try to be mysterious.
It re-creates memorable scenes from the original, including the scene where they play "The Thing from Another World" (which John Carpenter's The Thing is based on). It overuses the theme music. Sure it's the most memorable horror theme music, but it feels like Rob Zombie is forcing you to remember it.
The teenagers are airheads like in the original including Laurie, which makes them likeable. You wish that Michael will kill them all.
Avoid this garbage and see the original 1978 classic, it's more suspenceful and haunting.
