Review of Halloween (2007) by Miroslav G — 18 Aug 2015
Rob Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's original masterpiece is an interesting film to say the least. The film is better than much of the previous sequels to the original and breaks in new ground in the horror and slasher genres and in the franchise alike (further establishing Zombie's credibility and potential in making horror films).
Although, this movie is a remake and as a remake it tends to fall flat in every way possible compared to the original. The beginning of the film is a nice and interesting introduction to the developing psychotic mind of Michael Myers, but much of it seems unnecessary and takes you out of the film, especially after this origin story is over and we move on to the adult Michael.
Also, this film is excessively violent and bloody and manages to be frightening by doing so but just feels cheap compared to how Carpenter's original version completely relied on suspense and atmosphere to be frightening.
All and all, this movie doesn't fail as a remake but pales in comparison to the original.
