One of the genre's greatest exercises in holding the audience within a zone of pure tension for over 90 minutes, John Carpenter's "Halloween" is a rightful classic, featuring some simple, yet effective lore, generation-defining scares, and a nerve-shredding final act.
Not much else to say about this one -- you simply have to watch it to experience the influence and history.
