Review of Half Nelson (2006) by Bill B — 02 Nov 2008
This is a very rare film indeed and simply wonderful. Ryan Gosling's performance is outstanding, as are the supporting cast. The film tells of an obviously highly intelligent and talented, inner city school teacher who struggles with a serious drug problem and forms an unlikely bond with one of his students, when she finds him high in the school's locker room.
Poignant and beautiful, heart-wrenching and thought-provoking, there are very few films that make such an impact - bloody marvellous! Good sideburn rating: 10/10 Ryan Gosling is one of finest exponents of outstanding facial hair, and this is one of the best examples on celluloid.
Presence of sartorial elegance: 4/10 Slightly cooky, oddball style gains Gosling some marks in this film.
