Review of Half Nelson (2006) by Vince A — 29 Sep 2010
An interesting take on the student-teacher relationship, Shareeka Epps and Ryan Gosling and great in their respective roles. Seeing Ryan drown as a teacher and in his personal life is mesmerizing and he does it very well.
The biggest criticism about this film is the genre it falls into; although it tries to escape the genre of a white teacher helping students in projects/poverty, it doesn't do enough to be memorable and separate itself distinctively.
Besides Gosling's character's failures, there isn't enough that is interesting.
