Ryan Gosling establishes himself as the most exciting young actor in a generation in Ryan Fleck's heart-wrenching, but not hammy, depiction of a crack-addicted inner-city teacher whose principles remain steadfast.
Funny, smart, politically engaged and highly original, Gosling's Best Actor nomination was the least he deserved.
