Review of Half Nelson (2006) by Joshua L — 07 Feb 2012
A complex yet basically simple story, Half Nelson chops and changes between good and bad. Although the film seems like another 'teacher in a poor neighbourhood, wants to change the world' kind of film, its different because its the teacher who has the problem.
But who is right in this film, and who is wrong. Everyone seems to want to help each other, yet they cannot help themselves from taking the easy way out. Though lacking in dialogue, Half Nelson makes up for what didn't get said and the emotion that runs through characters faces and body movements.
Ryan Gosling is truley fabulous as someone with a clear head and a heart of gold, but ruined by something else.
