Review of Half Nelson (2006) by Nic A — 19 Oct 2012
It took me a long time to get around to it but finally watched this film. It's not exactly what I was expecting but I actually prefer how understated the actual version is. It's not about redemption or fixing your life at all and is more a case of showing the character's lives as they are and how some things, especially people, don't change.
Ryan Gosling is great as the conflicted teacher and the young girl is also strong. Great soundtrack too. A non-preachy film about drugs, urban life and 30 something disillusionment.
