Review of Half Nelson (2006) by Lloyd H — 27 Jan 2013
Half Nelson is a strong character piece featuring a fine performance from Ryan Gosling. Supporting actress Shareeka Epps puts in a performance beyond her years and holds her own brilliantly alongside Gosling.
Director Ryan Fleck shows less is more and crafts a refreshing and authentic viewing experience. However, the plot lacks direction and the film concludes in disappointing and not very creative way. But Ryan Gosling's ability to carry a film shines through and the contrasting themes of loneliness, drugs, race and families create an interesting concept.
