Critically-acclaimed films are sometimes dodgy territory. For every wonderful 'Little Miss Sunshine', there's a stinky 'Sideways' waiting to disappoint you. But everything you've heard about 'Half Nelson' is spot on.
Gosling is, as ever, superb, and as sickly sweet and predictable as a movie about an innercity teacher hooked on crack befriending a student could be, this one totally sidesteps any naffness and truly delivers a moving and enjoyable movie.
Kudos to the young Shakeera Epps too.
