Review of Half Moon (2010) by Nilufar M — 07 Jan 2008
This is a movie about journeys. Mamo is taking is his ten sons on a road trip from Iran to Iraq. Every single one of them is a talented musician, and when they arrive they will play in a Kurdish concert which has previously banned until the fall of Saddam Hussein. There are also the personal journeys of the characters of the film and we also see a nation on a journey - hopefully of healing and recovery.
The movie is littered with symbols but is essentially told in a simple straightforward manner. It might have benefited from some tighter editing, but then again this journey was always going to be a long one which is not yet finished.
Insightful.
