Review of Hal Sparks: Charmageddon (2010) by Ginger V — 11 Sep 2011
There's a reason this comedy special was taped in front of a standing-room-only audience. Nobody does comedy like Hal Sparks. He mixes the right balance of silly physical comedy with insightful social commentary and biting wit.
Like any master, he puts a hilarious spin on the mundane and gives you something to think about long after you watch. I defy anyone to order iced tea without thinking about about Hal's rant on sweetened vs.
"unsweetened". You'll also think twice before using certain obscenities to define a weak person, or sending that salacious text to your special someone. He goes beyond those observations we all share and plants new ideas, which is what takes comedy up a notch.
This puts Sparks in league with comedy greats like George Carlin.
