Review of Hairspray (2007) by Gustavmarkovic31 . — 11 Sep 2012
Hairspray is bubbly, fun, funny, star-studded and oh so entertaining. The perfect cast is tainted by only a teensy little bit of average acting, but don't let that deter you from seeing Hairspray.
The journey from movie to stage musical to movie again is welcomed by all accounts and rightly so, as everybody does their bit in this third edition. Adam Shankman's direction and choreography is good and Michelle Pfeiffer, John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Elijah Kelley and James Marsden are perfectly cast and shine in their roles, stealing scenes off each other and strutting their stuff every opportunity they get.
My only before I saw the film were Amanda Bynes (who is clearly not singing) Zac Efron (is he overrated? Perhaps he's earning cred slowly), Nikki Blonsky (which was foolish of me, she was great) and Britany Snow (who never really shone in my eyes, despite starring roles in movies like John Tucker Must Die).
Yet these people showed me they were capable in certain aspects of their performance, and saved the movie from themselves.
I loved every single second of this movie. There wasn't a moment when I wasn't singing the songs under my breath, tapping my feet to the beat or wishing I was in that studio onstage dancing with the cast. It doesn't do so well on a second viewing, but it is still wonderful.
SEE THIS MOVIE!!!
