Movie Matt here with Hairspray: The Musical. Unlike the 1988 film which was more of a straight story with no songs & only dancing, this film focuses more on the Broadway musical. The story & characters remain the same but some characters who aren't seen enough in the 1988 film get more to work with here (like Seaweed).
I was introduced to Hairspray through this film & thus appreciate it more than the 1988 film.
