Review of Hairspray (2007) by Adam F — 28 Mar 2013
"Hairspray" has a lot of energy, great songs and the casting is excellent. Nikki Blonsky really shines as "Amber" but everyone (even John Travolta as Amber's mother) is perfectly cast.
The dance numbers are fun, though at times edited too frequently for us to really appreciate them. It also has a nice message that's been simplified (perhaps a bit too much at times) for younger audiences to enjoy and understand.
It's a lot of fun, so children and adults alike will definitively have a good time (and the message, though simplified is an important one to show, especially to children who would not have heard of it before).
