Review of Hairspray (2007) by Daniel B — 18 Jan 2014
I suppose it was about time I saw this adaptation of an adaptation and when I saw Zac Efron I could have cursed but hey...he was alright. Out of my whole time watching this I just felt like I wanted to dance like the cast, but i'm sure i'd probably end up with a hip replacement if I tried.
The songs are very 'musical-y', but I didn't mind them, the beginning one "goodmorning baltimore" keeps getting stuck in my head though. I think the best part was John Water's cameo, I was literally shouting at the TV "IT'S JOHN", to an empty house.
The only part that bugged me was the woeful casting of John Travolta, I mean maybe he wouldn't have been so bad if he didn't put on that demented accent. Overall I think this is pretty good, I was laughing all the way through the first half 'cause I couldn't believe that this somewhat nutty 1980s movie is now this big musical.
