Review of Hairspray (2007) by Aaron B — 08 May 2014
Light, energetic and undeniably fun, "Hairspray" is a winner. But it's not just a fantastic musical; it's also a heartwarming drama, and an even funnier comedy. The acting is exceptional, and the costumes and production design couldn't be anymore true to its period.
However, I wouldn't exactly call this a "family" film (unless your family's made up of older teenage kids). It addresses issues of racism (respectfully), oftentimes flinging around derogatory words and phrases to get its point across.
But for a more mature audience, this film will touch the hearts (and toe-tappin' feet) of many.
