Review of Hairspray (2007) by Merol Kim C — 25 Aug 2014
Light, well-acted, dynamic, fun and entertaining-the aforementioned adjectives are all married together in one star-studded musical called Hairspray (Remake of the 1988 classic by John Waters -RT). I have always liked musicals and what made Hairspray standout for me is its ability to mold the atmosphere it wants to create before unleashing its grand finale.
Yes, its plot is very simple-a teenage girl who dreams of being a part of a local Baltimore dance show and eventually gets to star in it-but it does not limit itself there. The writing went beyond boundaries.
Still, I thought the musical had its downs because as soon as the credits have begun to roll, I sensed that something was missing, something that could've given the movie a better ending. Well whatever it is, it's on the tip of my tongue and I cannot spit it out.
4/5 ?
