Review of Hairspray (1988) by Margaret-Mary M — 09 Sep 2008
I had heard that this was awful, compared to the 2007 musical version. But I didn't think it was THAT bad. The prejudices (both toward Tracy and the negro kids) were portrayed much more harshly than in the 2007 musical, but possibly that's how they really were.
At any rate, it's worth watching for the sake of comparing the two.
