Review of Hairspray (1988) by Ifiok O — 18 Oct 2009
If John Waters had to have at least one decent movie in his resume, it would most definitely have to be the original 'Hairspray' from the 80s. There's much to enjoy, from the throwback to the 1960s dance crazes, to the important social commentary that is given about race relations during the 1960s.
Surprisingly, the best performance goes to Divine as the mother.
