I love Hairspray, but for me, this just isn't it. Give me the newer version with John Travolta any day. For one thing, I love Hairspray as a musical, and this is not. For another, the plot has completely evolved since then and this comes across as very dated and harsh.
I'm not saying I thought it was terrible, but in comparison to the musical and the newer version of the movie, this is lame.
